Why WiFi?
It’s a techno savy world we live in now. We get the majority of our primitive campers from the web. Google is the best sales person I never hired. Appearently 35% of our web searches our done with either a tablet or phone. Most of our customers travel an average of two to four hours to get to the campground. They’re mostly “big city” folks from Richmond, Washington and North Carolina, to name a few, who want to get out of dodge and back to the country.
Families make up the majority of our campers. Typically it’s mom, dad and a couple or three kids. What I’ve learned is the kids are the techno experts of the family. And it’s the dads that want to get the kids away from their phones, tv’s, and laptops. I’ve had the same conversation with a couple dozen dads over the years and all they want for their kids is to go fishing, gather firewood, swim in Goose Creek and mostly just get outdoors and away from the techno babble.
I was talking to one dad when the kids were in the car and one of his first questions was, “do you have wifi?” I told him yes, but that it was only in our store. And he pleaded with me to please not let the kids know. No problem.
The wifi thing is a double edged sword. Mostly all our campers come here with some kind of device and like the convenience of the technology. But to me, camping is all about getting unplugged and getting plugged back into nature.
